Preparing Your DJ Equipment For A Move

by Brianna Cole

If you are a disc jockey, and you are getting ready to move to a new home, you undoubtedly have electronic equipment you use that you want to take along with you. Packing your equipment for transport in a moving truck will need to be done properly so you do not cause damage to the pieces you use to perform your job. Here are some steps you can use to ensure your equipment gets to its destination in the same shape as when it leaves your home.

Place The Main Components In Sturdy Enclosures

It is important to place your mixer, amplifier, and speakers inside enclosures that will not become crushed by some of your other personal items in a moving truck. Consider using heavy-duty crates to hold your items. These are structured to encase your equipment without the risk of the enclosure ripping, crumpling, or cracking due to the thickness of the wood used to construct them. Placing your equipment in cardboard boxes is risky when dealing with expensive items as it is not guaranteed to stay intact.

Use Protective Foam And Wrap To Cushion Your Items

Line the enclosures you use to hold your DJ equipment with abundant cushioning so your components do not become jostled while in transit. Packing peanuts work well at providing ample protection from potential damage while in transit. You may want to consider wrapping your electronics with pieces of bubble wrap or have them shrink wrapped in plastic beforehand. This will help keep them safe from any moisture damage. After you place your items in their containers, fill any empty space with more packing peanuts. An alternative is to purchase custom-made foam pieces to fit around your components.

Keep Smaller Items In A Separate Enclosure

It is best to place any smaller pieces used with your system in their own enclosure. This way the larger pieces will not cause them damage due to potential shifting. Wires, microphones, microphone stands, lighting units, and headphones, should all be wrapped in bubble wrap before placing them inside a plastic storage container. Again, packing peanuts can be used to keep these items cushioned should something impact the enclosure.

Take Time To Protect Your Musical Collection

It is also a good idea to take precautions in protecting your music from harm when moving. If you use compact discs or DVDs to play music, each individual disc should be placed in a protective plastic case so scratching is not an issue. These can be put into a plastic storage container or a professional disc case to keep them from getting lost.

Digital music should be backed up before you make your move. If you are shipping a laptop, it is best to carry a hard drive with your musical files with you instead of putting it in the moving truck with the rest of your equipment. Keeping your digital music in two places will ensure you do not lose your entire collection at once should a mishap occur. For more information, contact companies that sell packing supplies.

During the completion of this assignment, I researched ways to make a new business successful. I discovered that implementing marketing strategies is crucial. I also learned about the value of offering a product or service customers in your target area desire. For example, selling snow plows in Miami, Florida is probably not a great idea.
