Three Tips For Renting A Moving Truck For Your Upcoming Move

by Brianna Cole

Moving can be a bit of a hassle, but proper planning can make the process easier. When planning for a move, it is best to have everything packed up and ready to go before the day of the move actually arrives. Enlisting friends and family to help with the move ensures that everything can be moved quickly. Renting a moving truck to move all of your belongings will allow you to move everything in one or two trips so that the move takes as little time as possible. Use the guide below for a few tips for renting a moving truck to use for your next move.

Determine When the Truck Can Be Picked Up

The first thing you need to do is determine when you will be able to pick up the truck. It is best to choose a company that opens as early as possible so you can start the move early in the day. You will have to pay for each day that you have the truck so being able to start early will better your chances of being able to return the truck the same day so that you do not have to pay for multiple days of rental.

Determine How Large of a Truck You Need

If you are moving a large house full of belongings, you will more than likely want the biggest truck that the company offers. If you have a small apartment to move, renting the largest truck will be a waste of money because you will not have enough items to fill it. The company will be able to give you an estimate for how large of a truck you need to rent based off of the size of your home. It is important to realize that you will have to drive the truck though. If you cannot drive a large truck, bring someone with you that can and register them as the driver of the truck so that they are covered under the insurance policy for the rental.

Determine the Return Policy for the Rental

When renting the truck, you need to be sure to take the time to determine where the truck needs to be returned when the rental is complete. Some companies require you to return the truck to the exact place where you rented it from, while others will allow you to return it to any business within their franchise. Also, be sure to determine if you need to fill the gas tank on the truck before returning it to ensure that you do not have to pay any additional fees for not complying with their policies.

When you are using the moving truck, be sure to check to see if there is a pull-out ramp that can be used to make moving larger items easier. Be sure to also latch the door to the truck before actually driving the truck to ensure that nothing falls out of the back of the truck during the move.
