What You Should Not Forget To Do When You Clear Out Your Storage Unit

by Brianna Cole

Most storage unit proprietors expect that you will clean out your unit once you have decided to vacate it. However, you should double-check your contract. There may be a few extra expectations that you should know about before you notify the proprietor that your stuff is out. Here is what you may have forgotten and what your landlord/lady may charge you for.

Look for Missed Cobwebs

People who rent self storage units know that they should do a quick sweep of the floor in their units after they have everything out. What you may forget to do is to look up. Even the tiniest spiders that sneak into the unit can leave behind cobwebs overhead. Sweep these away with a static duster or round broom while you are sweeping the unit.

Clean the Door

Outdoor units often collect a lot of dirt, spider webs, and bug carcasses. Believe it or not, some proprietors will charge you for what Mother Nature leaves behind. Brush the webs and dead bugs off, then do a quick wipe down with a soapy rag so that you will not get charged for this either.

If your unit is inside a building, just wipe the door down quickly. You may be surprised to find that enough dust has settled on the door to leave a layer of dirt behind. In this case, you may or may not be expected to wipe the door down, but it is a courtesy that the proprietor would appreciate.

Check Hidden Corners

There are always little nooks and crannies inside storage units. Some might require you to get on your hands and knees or belly to see, while others will require you to look around the construction of the unit. Make sure to check these areas too, since overly fastidious proprietors may check them if you do not.

Check Your Agreement for Anything Else

If you have covered all of the above, check your lease agreement again. Anything mentioned there is definitely something your landlord/lady will check, and you should clean that as well. While it may seem like overkill, it is important to cover all of your bases if you expect to get your security deposit back. It is also important to realize that this storage unit will now hold somebody else's stuff, and that person may want a unit that is much cleaner than what you may consider clean.

During the completion of this assignment, I researched ways to make a new business successful. I discovered that implementing marketing strategies is crucial. I also learned about the value of offering a product or service customers in your target area desire. For example, selling snow plows in Miami, Florida is probably not a great idea. On this blog, I hope you will discover some ingenious tips to help you become a successful entrepreneur.
