Problems Your Sewing Machine May Need to Be Repaired

by Brianna Cole

A sewing machine can be a useful tool for allowing you to patch damage to your clothes or even create entirely new items. Unfortunately, there are many problems that could eventually impact your sewing machine and that will need to be repaired.

Friction Damage

A modern sewing machine will have a large number of moving parts. Not surprisingly, friction is a major issue that will have to be mitigated to keep the device running. While the sewing machine will be thoroughly lubricated when you first get it, this can start to degrade over the years. As a result, the system can be far more likely to suffer significant damage as a result of excessive friction being generated. If your sewing machine is more than a few years old, it could be worth taking it to a professional repair provider to have the internal components lubricated so that it will enjoy effective protection against friction damage.

Timing Belt Problems

To work correctly, the various moving parts of a sewing machine will have to be in perfect timing. Even slight differences in the timing of components could severely reduce the ability of the machine to work. This process is controlled with a timing belt that will be able to keep these components synchronized as the device runs. If the timing belt starts to fray or warp, this could result in the sewing machine being far more prone to jamming. For a person that is finding their sewing machine being more prone to jamming, having the timing belt replaced may restore the performance of the sewing machine.

Faulty Foot Pedal

To make controlling the sewing machine easier, it is common for them to be equipped with a foot pedal that will allow the user to control the machine while keeping their hands free to guide the cloth through it. A common issue that may prevent the foot pedal from working as you expected could be due to the connection loosening or becoming inconsistent. In most cases, it is possible to repair this problem without having to replace the entire foot pedal. Rather, the compromised portion of wiring may be found and corrected. While this is a reliable repair, it can require a person to have equipment that can measure the connection between these components. Luckily, sewing machine repair providers will be equipped with the tools to find these connection issues and to repair them so the sewing machine's performance can be fully restored.
